Hammer Nutrition

Hammer Gel

What category does it best fall under (pre-/mid-/post- race and training): Hammer Gel is primarily used during training sessions and races. However, it may be used as a pre-workout meal or for recovery, providing an excellent source of easily digested carbohydrates.

Main benefits of consuming product: As with all Hammer Nutrition fuels, there are no added simple sugars in Hammer Gel, which allows for a greater volume of calories to be easily digested, providing more fuel for energy production. Convenience is also a primary benefit of Hammer Gel; gels in general are convenient as they provide a concentrated source of calories. The reusable Hammer Flask takes that convenience even further as it will hold five servings, providing up to two or more hours worth of fuel.

How is it used: Hammer Gel may be used straight, as a gel, in either single-serving pouches or in the five-serving Hammer Flask, or it may be mixed with water in a bottle to make a sports drink.

When should it be consumed: If Hammer Gel is used as a pre-workout/race meal it should be consumed at least three hours prior to the workout/race. If this is not logistically feasible it should be consumed as close to the start of the workout/race as possible, approximately no later than 5-10 minutes prior. Either of these pre-exercise fueling techniques will ensure efficient utilization of muscle glycogen stores. Hammer Gel will satisfy all energy requirements for events up to two hours.

In training sessions/events longer than that Hammer Gel may be used to supplement protein-based fuels such as Perpetuem. During triathlons in the one- to two-hour range (perhaps even up towards 2.5 hours) Hammer Gel may be used as the sole energy source. During the run portion of half or full iron-distance triathlons, where carrying and consuming fuel can be a real nuisance, Hammer Gel’s superb complex carbohydrate formula and its relative ease of carrying and consumption make it the fuel of choice.

Heed

What category does it best fall under (pre-/mid-/post- race and training): Hammer Gel is primarily used during training sessions and races. However, it may be used as a pre-workout meal or for recovery, providing an excellent source of easily digested carbohydrates.

Main benefits of consuming product: HEED is a powdered energy drink and was designed for those who prefer a light carbohydrate solution versus an energy gel. As with Hammer Gel, HEED contains no added simple sugars and therefore provides similar benefits. HEED also has an extremely light and subtle flavor, a welcome change from the typical sports drink. Also, whereas other sports drinks usually only provide token amounts of salt and potassium, HEED contains a full spectrum, easily assimilated electrolyte profile. HEED also contains ChromeMate™ brand chromium polynicotinate for stabilizing blood glucose levels, and l-carnosine for lactic acid buffering.

How is it used: Mix HEED with water in a bottle to make a superb energy/electrolyte drink.

When should it be consumed: The applications of HEED are identical to Hammer Gel. During hot weather, when electrolyte requirements increase, HEED is arguably a better fuel choice than Hammer Gel.
